Our History

Aureon’s journey began in the 1980s, rooted in telecommunications and focused on addressing the needs of underserved rural communities in Iowa. Over the decades, our dedication, expertise, and relentless pursuit of excellence have driven us to expand and diversify our services, offering businesses throughout Iowa (and several surrounding states) reliable, scalable solutions tailored to their needs.

1980s

Following the Bell System divestiture, a visionary group established a company to connect long-distance carriers with Iowa’s independent telecommunications companies (ITCs). In 1988, Iowa Switch Company (later Iowa Network Services, Inc., or INS) was formed, becoming the first Centralized Equal Access company in the United States.

1990s

The 1990s marked significant partnerships, including the creation of Iowa Wireless Services (iWireless) in 1997 and Iowa Telecom in 1999, both extending services to Iowans and beyond.

2000s

Between 2008 and 2015, Aureon expanded its offerings with key acquisitions, including Alliance Technologies, Alliance Connect, and Merit Resources, enhancing capabilities in IT, communications, and HR solutions.

2016 and Beyond

In 2016, the INS Family of Companies rebranded as Aureon, reflecting a broader focus on business solutions. This evolution included the acquisition of Midwest Project Partners (now Aureon Consulting) and a strategic redefinition of services. By 2024, Aureon had solidified its position as a Midwest leader, delivering scalable solutions in connectivity, technology, staffing, and contact center services.
